1100HP Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 2008 Adam & John @ Spankin Times Motorsports

Jeep is a Legend. Jeep there’s only one.

Nobody will deny the obvious truth either someone who poorly knows world automotive industry and its history. It does not matter whether you like Jeep or not, this is one of the most legendary car brands which products cause obvious respect. Here is one fact that that makes tremble fans of versatile and comprehensive tuning.

Jeep is modified in following ways:
 — Show cars from retro-style to cosmic tuning
 — Rally-raid sports cars
 — Expedition SUVs
 — Buggies FormulaOffroad,
 — Big-foots,
 — Trophy monsters and all sorts of off-road prototypes,
 — Rock crawlers and trial prototypes,
 — Dragsters and other turbo-charged rockets.

And the list for tuning of these cars is so impressive that makes the owners of Jeep SUVs slightly arrogant snigger over new Sparco mudflaps on a passing somewhere “downstairs” Subaru Impreza.

The history of American classic, which name is used for all-wheel-drive SUVs all over the world, goes to the middle of XX century, when in Butler, Pennsylvania, the Bantam Car Company built the first prototype of a small but very simple four-wheel drive SUV “Bantam 1940”. It was the first specimen of the military order of 70 machines that Bantam Car Company had to assembly by the end of 1941.

Firstborn lived not so long. Despite the assigned role of a demonstration vehicle in September 1941 Bantam 1940 was damaged in a traffic accident near Maryland, and was then sent back to Butler and disassembled. On its basis was created Bantam Mark II for the U.S. Army which marked the birth of military legend — Willys.

«Company Willys produced 335,551 cars and they were on duty on all battlefields of all Allience’s armies. They had a lot of modifications, such as a longer wheelbase, armored, with skies, railway and armed with different weapons. This car changed the Americans understanding of an automobile and added a new word in their vocabulary — Jeep. Early versions had embossed inscription „Willys“ on the back, but the militaries were disappointed with this free advertising and ordered to stop this practice „(based on jeep.avtograd.ru information).

In 1965 Jeep has decided to capture hearts and minds of ordinary Americans forever by releasing mid-size four-wheel-drive family SUV with body-on-frame. JeepWagoneer SJ was like a breath of fresh air among the more confusing and faded SUVs in those years. And it’s appearance formed the new SUV standard in the automotive industry.

JeepWagoneer existed as a separate model until 1974, after which it became a subspecies of the new flagship of American Motors Company-Jeep CherokeeWagoneer. Renewed Jeep had got a huge amount of luxury features inside the cabin and rich wood trim body outside. Now fans imagine this appearance when mention the word Wagoneer.

Its glorious history ended in 1991, and Chrysler tightly tried to decide: «What to do now?» They had to create a follower, because by that time Jeep Cherokee XJ became a classic and took completely different niche among SUV and was not a direct follower of luxury sofa. So in a compact way that is how the story of a vehicle we are going to speak started.

In 1993, the world saw something new and very interesting. Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ — unibody — without a frame, two beam axles, spring suspension, permanent four-wheel drive and two petrol engines to choose from: classic AMC 242 4.0L with six cylinders in a row or the latest reincarnation of V8 Magnum 318, with 5.2 liters with new distributed injection. Comfortable lounge, lightweight body and enough energy intensive suspension, all this was finished by powerful engines, which left behind a torn chunks of asphalt, but despite this, enjoyed notable success with American housewives.

In 1998 after restyling Jeep introduced the first Grand Cherokee model charged from the factory with maniacal V8 Magnum 380 5.9L motor. And a glorious history of SRT version began and completed on major note the line of Grand Cherokee ZJ-cars, which were produced in 1,662,552 units from 1993 to 1998.
In 2011, Chrysler-Jeep produces the new charged model, which enters into a long drag-confrontation with Range Rover Sport and Porche Cayenne.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK-2 SRT8 received powerful V8 HEMI 6.4 liter directly from the factory. This motor issues 470hp and torque 630Nm. Of course, it was also equipped with reinforced transmission. Do you think it’s enough? But there is no limit to perfection.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK 1100HP SRT8 we are going to speak about does not make such a strong impression with its appearance as other shining smooth drag cars. And if you meet him on the parking you will be surprised the whim of the owner put on such a strange body kit.

But everything changes after the video view. Especially, if a video filmed with a sense of humor. So there you go!

The owner of the car is 29-year-old Paul Moore from Southern California (the children in the video are his friend’s children). Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 was purchased new in Chicago in 2008, then Paul transferred it to California. At that time the car was equipped with a stock 8-cylinder V8 6.1L HEMI motor which gave 420 horsepower at 6200 rpm in the standard version.
Since 2009 Paul actively began to pump his car with the help of Adam Spankin from San Bernardino (Adam & John @ Spankin Times Motorsports) and participate in drag competitions. The car power was grown and by 2011 it reached awesome figures — 1100 hp!

The video which makes this Jeep famous in the Intenet contains footage from Raceway Slug Day 2011, where it showed 6.44 seconds at 1/8mile (speed 107 mph (172 kph) ) and 10.09 seconds at 1/4 mile (speed 135mph (217 kph)). With this car you can slowly and comfortably take the kids to school and then go fishing, simultaneously loading into it half the range of tourist and grocery departments of nearest hypermarket and a trailer with a hitch hang boat! 1100 hp! You can manage to speed up before traffic jams!

For that moment Paul’s Jeep was equipped with ST Motorsports 7.0L stroker, Stu @ Inertiaheads/cam, KenneBell 3.6L liquid cooled Supercharger, Southern Hotrod transmission, BuilderBill dominator converter, Western Differential Ford 9" rear with Wave trac 35 spline, Mr. Norms WOT box, PWR fuelrails, Arrington twin fuel pump basket, Nitto NT05/r street and also drag radials, and a 6 point custom removable rollbar with lock links and a full load of other modifications

During the four years of ownership Paul invested in this car about 40 thousand dollars. Periodically in his videos he wrote about setting another record «I did it after 4 months and $ 1,000.» In June 2012, he put his car for sale for $ 51,000 with mileage 49,000 miles and successfully sold it. The car was out of sight of internet fans and its fate is unknown. However, in the announcement of the sale it was written: «This JEEP is fully built to race or drive around town. You could pull off the KenneBell blower and sell it easily for $8–9k and throw some twinturbos on it for megapower if preferred.» Perhaps another American housewife bought a favorite toy for trips to the market.
