Heart for the new Mercedes AMG GT

AMG division revealed details about the new powerplant used in the Mercedes AMG GT supercar and released a teaser video with the sound of the new engine to satisfy the tastes of true connoisseurs. As we have already reported, under the bonnet, the supercar will carry a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivering up to 510 hp. The company will use this new engine not only in the G63 model but also in the Mercedes G63 AMG. The AMG GT will replace the SLS — it is expected to weigh less and pit against the Porsche 911.

The new engine codenamed M178 will replace the 6.2-litre eight-cylinder motor. Even though the previous engine has not given rise to any criticism, the new one is lighter and more technologically advanced. The engine weighs just 209 kg due to the use of aluminium.

The standard car will be coming with 462 hp, while the boosted GT-S modification will produce 510 hp and 650 Nm. Peak torque is said to be available from 1,750–4,750 rpm. Apart from that, AMG told about their plans to build a special edition called the Black Series, which is expected to be even more “brutal”.

True sports car connoisseurs consider the sound of engine to be one of its most important features. Experts from the AMG Sound Lab have released three videos with the sound produced by the new engine. The secret of its “velvety roar” lies in the fact that the engine is mated to the exhaust system, which includes variable flaps that open and close depending on things like suspension mode and many other aspects. In this case, when choosing an aggressive driving style, the engine roars like an animal, while in calm driving conditions it purrs like a kitten.

As a reminder, the supercar will be unveiled on September 9th, so we will not have to wait long.
