One of the major questions haunting the minds of car enthusiasts is whether BMW and Toyota are going to build a rear-wheel drive sports car. There is no answer so far, although it’s possible that quite soon we will be able to see the BMW Z5 roadster made of carbon fibre.
It seemed like nothing was running counter to the fact that BMW and Toyota sports cars could get a common platform and powerplants in the nearest future and bring joy to the owners of twin cars. Alas!
According to unofficial information, BMW has different plans at the moment. They consider building a sports car with a carbon fibre monocoque, meaning that Toyota’s part would be brought down to developing the powerplant.
It is speculated that they will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with different boost levels. Rumours also claim that the car will be fitted with a soft top.
Well, the premiere is due to arrive in 2017, so the company still has a lot of time to get all the details ironed out.
