Lexus consider building a small premium car intended for the role of a forward in conquering the SUV market. It will join the model lineup one position behind the new NX.
Alain Uyttenhoven, European vice president of the Japanese brand, told Autocar about the company’s intentions to expand its model range; however, it took Alain some time to find the right words. In the end, he summarised that producing a compact SUV might make sense.
“The premium market starts with a car as small as the Audi A1”, Uyttenhoven said. He added that premium cars were becoming smaller. The premiere could pit against the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mercedes GLA. It means that the possibility of building a compact Lexus SUV is getting bigger with every similar car sold by competitors.
