Toyota Prius — the Nürburgring record-holder

Everyone is talented in one way or another. What concerns the Toyota Prius Plug-in, it was able to set a record at the legendary Nürburgring. A record not in speed but in fuel economy.

All petrol heads who love racing at the Nürburgring are familiar with the fuel station located near the circuit as the track distance of 20.7 km (not taking into account the GP part) is draining the fuel mercilessly. However, the Toyota Prius Plug-in was able to cover this distance with an average fuel consumption of 0.4L/100km.

There is some controversy regarding the fact that the driver wasn’t actually using the combustion engine, which is also part of the hybrid powertrain, but ran mostly on electricity instead. According to the track’s rules, the speed of Prius was not dropping below 60 km/h. What concerns the lap time, it’s a bit frightening… 20 minutes 59 seconds.

Well, the glory of a Nordschleife record-holder haunts the minds of many car manufacturers. Prius might never have a chance to make the fastest lap at the Nürburgring but at least it can make it into history as the most fuel-efficient car.
