Another hill-climbing competition at Pikes Peak is over and the record set by Sébastien Loeb last year remains unbeaten.
The legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb held in Colorado is one of the oldest motor competitions in the USA. It runs since 1916. At that time, Rea Lentz was able to cover the distance of 12.42 miles in 20 minutes 55.6 seconds. In 2013, Sébastien Loeb climbed the hill with 157 corners in 8:13.878.
This year his record remained unbeaten. Best result was achieved by the two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Romain Dumas. However, he climbed 1,440 m in 9 minutes and 5 seconds. The US driver Greg Tracy behind the wheel of an electric car Mitshubishi MiEV Evolution III came second and was only 2 seconds behind this year’s winner.
Unfortunately, the race was shadowed by the death of a motorcycle driver Bobby Goodin. He was fourth to cross the finish line, lost control over his bike, rolled off into the curb, hit the stones there and succumbed to injuries.
