Audi has created a special version of the R8 V10 supercar — LMX. The coupé is now more powerful and can boast of laser headlights. It’s the world’s first production vehicle fitted with lasers as standard issue.

But let’s go step by step. 5.2-litre 10-cylinder engine delivering 570 hp and 540 Nm of torque is fitted under the bonnet of the Audi R8 V10 LMX. Moreover, the model is equipped with seven-speed dual-clutch semi-automatic S-tronic transmission. The coupé sprints to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and its top speed is 320 km/h.

LMX comes dressed in blue paint only; it features front and rear diffusors, rear spoiler, carbon fibre doorsills and side-mirror housings. The interior is trimmed with Alcantara and black Nappa leather with contrast blue stitching.

But the major feature of the LMX is its laser headlights. The company has already announced about equipping production vehicles with this type of headlights in the beginning of the year; however, no production plans were unveiled at that time. That is the right approach — less conversation, more action.

Each headlight has a laser module comprising four high-power laser diodes. They are activated at speeds of over 60 km/h. Visibility gets better without hurting the eyes of the drivers in the oncoming vehicles due to the work of the system, which detects an approaching car with the help of cameras and automatically adjusts the position of the headlights in order not to blind the drivers. It’s really important for this system not to suffer failures.

The price of an LMX will start at €210,000; however, it will be a limited edition of only 99 units.
