All-electric Mercedes-Benz B-Class compact cars started “flying” off the production lines of the company’s factory in Germany. Right before our eyes we can see the rise (or landing) of the first production electric cars in the history of the brand.

Electric motor delivers 177 hp of power with 340 Nm of torque. It sprints to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited at 160 km/h. However, it is 300 kg heavier than its past-century siblings equipped with petrol-powered engines — the weight of electric car is 1,750 kg. Battery produced by Tesla Motors can provide a travel range of 200 km.

The premiere will first go on sale in the U.S., then in Europe. However, the market in Russia is not yet ready for any innovations of this kind and the time when electric car might arrive here is unknown. The question of price is also left open. Meanwhile, we can stock up on power extenders to simplify the process of charging.

You never know what happens tomorrow and maybe quite soon we will see plugged-in Mercedes electric cars with cables stretching from each and every apartment.
