Performance tests: Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 vs Porsche 911 GT3 (991)

Journalists from the German AutoBild magazine published the results of performance tests of two very interesting Porsches. We are talking about the most “wicked” GT3 (997) version called the GT3 RS 4.0 and the most basic GT3 version but in the new 991 body style.

Journalists from the German AutoBild magazine published the results of performance tests of two very interesting Porsches. We are talking about the most “wicked” GT3 (997) version called the GT3 RS 4.0 and the most basic GT3 version but in the new 991 body style. Let’s start from the technical specs — both sports cars are fitted with highly boosted six-cylinder naturally-aspirated engines. The GT3 RS 4.0 is equipped with a 4-litre engine tuned to produce 500 hp and 460 Nm of torque. The GT3 (991) in its turn has a 3.8-litre motor delivering 475 hp and 440 Nm of torque. The major and most fundamental difference which strikes the eye here is the gearbox — only manual transmission is available for the GT3 RS 4.0 while the GT3 (991) features just the PDK. In the course of the tests the new GT3 demonstrated better driving performance — it was faster on the straight, had better deceleration and had a tangibly faster Sachsenring lap. Although the journalists noted that the GT3 (991) had a tyre advantage as the weather was rather cold and it wore the Pilot Sport Cup 2 which provided better traction. Below you can find the data received in the course of the tests:
