There are quite a few speculations around the new model. Some say that it is an upgraded version of the hybrid-powered Lexus LF-LC, which was revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in 2012. The Blue version fitted with a 500-hp hybrid powertrain came up right after it. An interesting fact was that it paired an Atkinson cycle combustion engine with electric motors and a battery pack.

Others think the new model to be just a forerunner of the open-top version of the RC coupé and its high-performance counterpart the RC F revealed in autumn 2013 and winter 2014 respectively. This one is more conventional. Under the bonnet sits a 5.0-litre petrol-powered eight-cylinder engine delivering 450 hp and 520 Nm of torque.

There is no certainty in either of these forecasts; however, it seems unlikely that the company was able to build an absolutely new engine powered by the moonlight, like it is suggested in the teaser.
