Land Rover builds a Tesla-rivalling all-electric SUV

Right now, it’s difficult to imagine that all-electric SUVs might be conquering off-road terrain; however, Land Rover is already setting its sights on electrically powered vehicles. The British company wants to build an EV based on the Range Rover in an attempt to challenge the forthcoming Tesla Model X crossover.

Land Rover was initially going to use the Defender as the base model and equip it with a 94-hp electric motor with a 300-volt lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 27 kilowatt-hour. However, it was later decided to use the Range Rover.

It's possible that in new model 2 electric engines will be used — per one for front and rear wheels. Also to compete with Tesla driving range on full charge should be not less than 420 km. Several pieces of new car will be made to take part in serious testing programme.
