The engineers have been working on bringing an aeromobil to life for 25 years. Another flying car had its debut at Pioneers Festival in Vienna. This unusual vehicle was built by a Slovakian firm AeroMobil.
This is not the first concept built by the firm. Their previous model was revealed back in 2013, though it was reminiscent more of an airplane than a car.
The new model was dubbed the AeroMobil 3.0. It is fitted with a water-cooled 100-hp four-cylinder horizontally opposed Rotax 912 engine. An interesting fact is that the car’s wings unfold when riding on the road and it can accelerate up to 160 km/h on land. The vehicle has an overall length of six meters and is 2.24 meters in width, while its wing span width is 8.32 m.
When airborne, the AeroMobil can reach the speed of 200 km/h. Surprisingly, its fuel consumption is 8 L/100km on land and 15L/100km in the air. The AeroMobil has a flight range of 700 kilometres (and 875 km on road). The flying car had its first demonstration flight in Vienna.
The company’s representatives said last year already that the aeromobils might hit production within the next couple of years. However, they plan to take their time. “We want to be a serious company. This is not a boy toy — we are not building a prop for a Hollywood movie”, says AeroMobil co-founder Juraj Vaculik.
By the way, having a driver’s license won’t be enough to operate an AeroMobil. It requires a pilot's license in the proper sense of the word. As for the price of the flying car, it is said to be somewhere in between the price of a supercar and a small plane.
