Detroit Electric has revealed the final design for the world’s fastest electric car.

The Detroit Electric SP:01 is based on the Lotus Exige. Its mid-mounted motor produces 280 hp and 280 Nm of torque. The 1,175-kg electric car uses a 37-kWh battery pack. The all-electric vehicle powers its way from 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, while its top speed is set at 250 km/h. It has a maximum range of 288 km on a single charge.

The car’s exterior design includes some significant changes. Last year’s concept was configured with a Targa-style top, while the new one has a more streamlined fastback form, which has improved the vehicle's aerodynamic performance.

All 999 electric cars will be manufactured in Warwickshire, England and will go on sale in Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa from early 2015. The price of the electric car will start at $135,000.
