24 hours spent by Mazda to set a record

Mazda set a world speed record during a 24-hour run at the ATP test oval in Papenburg, Germany.

The records were set for 2.0- and 2.5-litre diesel-powered cars. 23 drivers, both professionals and amateurs, took part in a 24-hour stint. Each of them spent around one and a half hours behind the wheel.



Three Mazda 6 sedans fitted with 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D engines delivering 175 hp (420 Nm) completed the marathon. The cars were able to cover the distance of 5,300 km during the 24-hour period, achieving an average speed of 221.072 km/h. The current record for diesel-powered production cars is 209.824 km/h.
