AMG does not need the “hyper” prefix

Representatives of the Mercedes’ sports division say they are ready to build high-performance cars; however, they do not want to get involved in a “power race”.

According to the initial plans, the first independent Mercedes-AMG model had to make a splash in the supercar segment. However, the plans have changed.

“It’s not helpful to have a hundred hypercars done in a year and nobody sees them on the road”, said AMG head Tobias Moers (on picture above).

Therefore, McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche will not see a new hypercar produced by AMG and should not expect any new rivals in this segment. On the other hand, sure enough, the company does not rule out sports cars. To the contrary, the automaker is getting ready for high-volume production.

Mercedes-AMG will come up with a slight consolation for those who were taken by surprise with this news — a high-performance front-placed engine GT Black Series featuring an increase in engine power, sports suspension and new aerodynamic body kit.
