A compact, graceful, comfortable and highly spacious vehicle is marketed as a new member of Discover family, which is to take the place of the retired Freelander.
After revealing the Discovery Vision concept at the Moscow Motor Show, which embodied all the outstanding characteristics of the new Discovery family, Jaguar Land Rover has started introducing all members of this lineup one by one to the market. The previous three years were dedicated to the Range Rover models, and likewise, in the next three years we should expect new Discoveries on the horizon. Yet another three-year period should be devoted to updating the Defender lineup.
As explained by Elena Kravets, Senior Marketing & PR Manager at Jaguar Land Rover, “design and off-road performance” were set as the main features when developing the new Discovery models. Unlike the Range Rover, where primary emphasis is placed upon luxury, the Discovery is a cross functional vehicle favourable for leisure-time activities and adventures. At the same time, the quality of interior and materials is an extremely important aspect, as this vehicle is set to rival such premium segment SUVs as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLK, and Volvo XC60.
Together with that, the Discovery Sport is the only vehicle in its segment that features a 5+2 seating arrangement, a huge luggage compartment, and special roof rails compatible with the sunroof. A fact worth mentioning is that even though the car features a 5+2 layout, the luggage compartment is still very spacious — the third-row seats fold flat into the floor, providing an 829-litre boot capacity. When folding the second-row seats, it can be increased up to 981 litres.
It features almost the same ride height as the Freelander 2 — it is now equal to 212 mm, which is 2 mm more than the ground clearance of its predecessor. However, the car’s visual dressing has become more stylish, up-to-date, and expensive.
On the Russian market, the cars will be available in three engine trims: a 2.2L diesel (TD4) delivering 150 hp, a 2.2L diesel (SD4) delivering 190 hp, and a 2L petrol engine (Si4) that produces 240 hp.
The price of the car in standard configuration, available only for a 150-hp diesel version, is set at 1,950,000 RUB (approx. €38,270). It features all the necessary and most important options: nine-speed transmission, Xenon headlights, power tailgate, heated windscreen, new multimedia system, 8-inch colour touch-screen, electrically adjustable heated front seats, leather heated steering wheel, rear park-assist sensors, two-zone climate control.
Top price of the car is set at 2,559,000 RUB (approx. €50,300). It is the HSE Luxury trim, which comes with a petrol-powered engine. The customers will be able to receive their cars in March 2015. First 500 clients will get expensive gift packages with an additional accessory set.
