Jeep develops a new flagship

Jeep is developing a new seven-seat flagship, which should get a long-forgotten name — the Wagoneer. Up to 1991, the luxury Jeep Wagoneer used to be the company’s and customers’ favourite. But first it was edged out by the Grand Cherokee and then came the time of the Commander.

Well, what goes around comes around and the Wagoneer will appear in a new luxurious guise to rival the Cadillac Escalade. Under the bonnet, it will carry a petrol-powered V6 or V8 delivering 300–365 hp coupled to a nine-speed automatic.

The new model will be based on a totally new platform, which can later be used in the Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The all-new Wagoneer should make its debut in 2015.
