Jaguar D-Type with a hammer

At the auction will be exhibited Jaguar D-Type, the winner of the 1956 «24 Hours of Le Mans.»
The organizers of the auction of US auction RM Sotheby's got their hands on a special exhibit — Jaguar D-Type, which in 1956 managed by Ninian Sanderson and Ron Flockhart first finished the race «24 Hours of Le Mans.»

That race was unique. Of the 49 starters of cars crossed the finish line only 14. Jaguar mentioned above was able to overtake the Aston Martin DB3S, piloted by a crew of Stirling Moss and Peter Collins. In the race, the average speed of Jaguar D-Type, equipped with a 3.6-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, was 167.3 km / h and a top speed — 251 km / h.

Already, organizers RM Sotheby's sure this is the most expensive in the history of British car that was sold at their auction. The current record belongs to racing McLaren F1 LM 1998 release, which was sold for 13.75 million dollars.
