Hard to believe, but Volkswagen is not quite satisfied with its reputation and might change the name of one of its brands to Auto Union.
As reported by GoAuto, the name Auto Union was chosen in tribute to an auto group, which existed in the period from 1932 to 1949. Auto Union owned Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer. All of them were divided into segments: Audi produced sports cars, Horch — luxury cars, Wanderer — middle-class vehicles, and DKW — motorcycles. However, in 1965, the company was taken over by Volkswagen.
In this way, Volkswagen will try to set apart one of its brands and a group of companies, although there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
