The German carmaker unveiled the new generation of Smart cars. One of them was crashed into a large Mercedes-Benz S-Class as part of safety tests.

The mini-Mercedes was able to find a corner in the heart of many egoists and those who want to get a fast and comfortable ride into the most confined lanes and alleys of a city. We were expecting a roadster to join the Smart’s lineup; however, it didn’t happen. Smart CEO Annette Winkler proved this information wrong. “The Roadster isn't a profitable business case. Everybody is keen on the car, but nobody wants to pay the bill”, she said in her interview to What Car.

However, a SUV is likely to appear. Sure enough, the Smart will have to gain some weight and become a bit longer but the project seems to be far-reaching, though there is no official confirmation so far.

At the moment, the major attention is focused at the ForTwo and ForFour, which will go on sale in Europe this November with the price tag of around €11,000. Traveling to the bakery and back with the comfort of Mercedes but in Smart’s disguise. All doors are open for those wishing to customise their baby cars as there are plenty of tuning studios ready to add some exclusiveness to them.

By the way, the ForTwo has had a crash test recently. It was smashed head to head with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan. The fact that both the driver and the passenger remained almost uninjured after an accident with a giant S-Class seems rather encouraging.
