A new lineup of six-cylinder engines is developed for Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The company is likely to forgo V-shaped engines in favour of in-line ones.

Mercedes-Benz care about fuel economy and ecology. Next generation of their cars might be fitted with naturally-aspirated or in-line turbocharged engines. As reported by Motoring, displacement of such engines will be in the range of 2.2–3.5L.

They are built on the base of 4-cylider powerplants used in front-wheel drive Mercedes cars.

It is still an open question, which cars in Mercedes lineup are going to pick up the new engine first. Maybe they will be used in the new-generation E-Class sedans or SL-Class and some of S-Class models.
