According to British Autocar, the model currently codenamed 988 will be fitted with an eight-cylinder turbocharged engine. The name of production model is yet unknown. The supercar will feature mid-eninged layout and its exterior will have something in common with the Porsche 918 Spyder. Right now the prototype of its future engine- fitted with 4 turbos — undergoes trials.
Superengine intended for the supercar will have 4L displacement, it will deliver around 600 hp. Stock version of Ferrari 458 Italia, the rival of the future supercar, generates 570 hp, however, the Italian supercar also has a Speciale version tuned to deliver 605 hp. Most probably, Porsche will develop a couple of boosted versions in order to keep pace with its rival.
Porsche 988 was first spotted in mass media about a year ago. At that time the car codenamed FeFi (Ferrari Fighter) was said to have a 3.9-litre eight-cylinder flat engine with four turbos, two intercoolers, multi-stage intake manifold, dual-mode exhaust, and all-wheel drive setup. It was stated that the all-new supercar was to find its place between the 911 and 918 models in Porsche’s lineup.
Production of the 988 will be launched in 2017. Its price tag is expected to be around $400,000.
