Corvette to be fitted with a 650-hp engine

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be fitted with a new 650-hp LT4 engine, which is going to be built at the company’s plant in Ohio. This engine is claimed to be the most powerful one in the entire history of Chevrolet.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be fitted with a new 650-hp LT4 engine, which is going to be built at the company’s plant in Ohio. This engine is claimed to be the most powerful one in the entire history of Chevrolet.

We are talking about a 6.2-litre V8 delivering 650 hp and 881 Nm of torque. Here’s what Jordan Lee, chief engineer for Small Block engines, said about the new motor: “Torque is the pulling power of an engine and the LT4’s abundance of it at every rpm in the engine’s speed range helps the 2015 Corvette Z06 accelerate quicker and respond nearly instantaneously”.

The Z06 fitted with the new motor is 12 horses and 62 Nm of torque more powerful than a Corvette ZR1. Customers will be able to opt for a seven-speed manual or a paddle-shift eight-speed 8L90 automatic transmission. It takes the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 less than 3.5 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h.

Well, if things go as planned by the company, the Corvette Z06 will be among top ten most powerful cars in the U.S. market. The premiere will go on sale in the end of 2014.
