Bosses of the “Queen of motorsports” have been looking for ways to reduce costs for quite a long time already, and they seem to have found a solution, which might suit everyone — cancellation of a Friday practice session.
Particularly, it refers to running only one session instead of two. Right now one of them is held at 10:00–11:30 local time and the other at 14:00–15:30. As reported by Autosport, this amendment should be first approved by Formula 1 commission and then by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
Among other cost-cutting measures, one can find a ban on in-season testing and a reduction in pre-season running. Tighter curfew is also under consideration to prevent teams from making last-minute pre-race car updates.
It’s not easy for the teams to find common ground as extra tests play into the hands of those of them with larger budgets. Anyway, the ball has started rolling and we just have to wait for the final decision of the FIA.
