It might sound impossible but the tyre manufacturer Dunlop is working on futuristic technologies, which would allow changing the quality of tyres on the fly!
Well, of course, first of all it concerns those who love taking a fast ride on the track behind the wheel of their sports cars or professional racing drivers, so that the latter could reduce the amount of pit-stops. As reported by auto.vesti.ru, such tyres would be able to adjust to changes in speed, type of surface, and weather conditions.
But how does it work? It can be achieved with the help of special tyre compound, which would use polymer gel mixed with other materials that react to electrical impulses. However, changing the quality of the tyre is not the end of the story. The tyre might also modify its width, profile, and tread pattern. In this case, there will be no need for a race car to change to rain tyres saving precious seconds. Moreover, the tyres will be self-restoring (due to replacement of layers) so no tyre wear also.
Obviously, it all looks like a script of some fantastic movie, which is still under development. But then again, a car also used to be yet another fantasy of someone.
