Audi unveiled a prototype version of a diesel-powered RS5 TDI coupé at the AMI motor show held in Leipzig. The Audi RS5 coupé features a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine delivering 385 hp and 750 Nm of torque.

The car is equipped with two turbos, one of which uses electrical power. The latter provides the engine with good response at low revs. As reported in the media release made by the manufacturer, this turbo activates at 1,250 rpm, while the traditional one takes over at 3,000 rpm. Such combination of units provides improved fuel economy and helps to avoid the turbo lag. The car is fitted with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. As claimed by Audi, the RS5 coupé sprints to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited at 280 km/h.

The future of these diesel-powered engines is uncertain at the moment, but, perhaps, we might “meet” them next year already, used in the boosted Audi RS versions.
