GTI Roadster was designed especially for the Gran Turismo game and after internal discussions Volkswagen decided to build this car in metal. According to vesti.mail.ru the car will be shown in Austria in sprortscar fans festival as in the game GTI Roadster was showing the supercar with aggressive design.
We were a bit surprised to know that Golf GTI was taken as the basis for this car. It has 3L VR6 TSI biturbo engine under the hood with 503 hp and 665Nm. Transmission uses 7-speed DSG gearbox and 4motion all wheel drive system. Disc brakes have 15 inches rotors in diameter in the front and 14 inches in the rear.
Body kit responsible for aerodynamics has large rear wing, integrated rear diffuser, and race car-like front splitter.
20-inch wheels are wrapped with 235/35 tires in the front and 275/30 tires in the rear finish the design.
This car will be never commercialized; it is done to practice in design and engineering.
VAG is not the first to make experiments with virtual cars. Another one Gran Tourismo prototype — Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision GT became real and though it did not go to mass production, six cars were sold to customers.
