Volkswagen decided to launch production of the fastest Golf in its lineup. It is expected to deliver 400 hp. At the Beijing Auto Show, the company revealed a concept of a 400-hp hatchback, but no production plans were announced. However, the positive reaction of the audience made the heads of the company change their minds. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, Volkswagen's research and development head, stated that the most powerful Golf would be fitted with a really powerful engine.
According to auto.vesti.ru, the premiere will be equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that will also be used in the Audi RS3. It is far from certain that VW and Audi would be able to reach a compromise and would not face the problem of internal competition as both manufacturers claim to produce the most powerful vehicles in the ‘golf-class’. Apart from sharing the same engine, they will both feature six-speed semi-automatic transmission and all-wheel drive layout. Therefore, actually, they are twins with different faces.
