SMP Racing pilot was the first Russian driver to take part in the test programme on the oval track of Indianapolis, which hosts the famous Indy 500 race. The Russian driver ranked second among all participating drivers and was the fastest among five rookies on the track.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is historically nicknamed “the old Brickyard”, did not spring any unpleasant surprises on the Russian driver. Mikhail Aleshin was able to make the most of race car’s potential starting from the very first lap.
“To be honest, taking into consideration how difficult the track is, I’m really surprised how fast Mikhail was able to get used to the track giving “full throttle” throughout the entire race. I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said the head of Schmidt Peterson Motorsports team Robert Edwards. “I’m impressed. We had no remarks for the pilot; we were just watching technical performance and went on with the mapped-out programme”.
“It’s a special feeling to race on the world’s most famous track,” said Mikhail Aleshin commenting on his run. “Moreover, it’s the fastest oval in the world. Long straight sections and plenty of overtaking possibilities will definitely provide a very spectacular race. I’m sure the fans will really enjoy watching it”.
The legendary Indianapolis 500-Mile Race will be held on May 25th. Two weeks earlier, on May 10th, there will be another racing weekend on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Mikhail Aleshin will also be among its participants.
