Formula 1 engines to use audio recording for sound amplification

Discussion of sound amplification of the Formula 1 engines will be held during the Chinese Grand Prix. All three engine makers — Renault, Mercedes and Ferrari — will be present. Debates around the sound of race cars do not seem to subside. “If the Formula 1 fans don’t like the current sound, we should find a way to change it”, said Mercedes motorsport head Toto Wolff. “But on the other hand, it does not mean we need to turn everything upside down and rewrite the rules again”.

There are some solutions found but they might lead to an increase in fuel consumption rate. It might be an increase by 10% or even higher as reported by auto.vestu.ru. However, it’s difficult to implement this solution as the pilots have strict fuel limitations they should keep to (100 kg of fuel for each race). So this might be followed by changes in technical regulations and FIA will not agree to that. So this question requires more imagination. “It might be some kind of loudspeaker”, said Mercedes engine boss Andy Cowell in his interview to Auto Bild. “We are already testing this idea as it’s not that easy to amplify the sound mechanically”.
