Audi has plans to produce its new Q5 crossover by the end of 2016. It will be built on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform becoming yet another “sibling” of Bentley and Lamborghini SUVs. Moreover, this platform will provide the base for the entire new Audi lineup, except for the small models.
According to auto.vesti.ru, the new crossover will be 100 kg lighter due to the use of aluminium. The powerplant range will include four- and six-cylinder engines and the manufacturer claims they will have a smaller fuel consumption rate than the current powerplants. Hybrid, the most fuel-efficient one, will feature all-wheel drive e-Quattro setup according to which the front wheels will be powered by the petrol engine, while the rear wheels will use the power of electric motor. The use of the regenerative braking system is also possible. Customers might opt for the matrix LED headlights which are now present on the facelifted Audi’s flagship A8.
The Q5’s interior is expected to borrow technologies used in the all-new TT with the multi-function dashboard featuring a digital display. It is also quite possible that the car will be equipped with the new climate control system.
