Alfa Romeo continues being the centre of attention. This time it’s the information that their new models will be fitted with Ferrari engines. According to earlier speculations, Ferrari was to help Alfa Romeo in developing the new engine lineup and either Ferrari was too much into it or followed the advice “If you want a thing done well, do it yourself”. As reported by Bloomberg, new Alfa Romeo models will go on sale in 2016 and will be sold through Jeep dealerships.
One of the reasons of such decision is to push sales up and get closer to BMW. New Alfa models will be based on Giorgio platform. Only RWD and AWD cars will be built on this chassis. According to motor.ru, the brand has plans to move away from front-wheel-drive layout — Giulietta and MiTo hatchbacks will start rolling off the production line in 2015.
Supposedly, the first car to get a Ferrari “heart” will be the Giulia sedan. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that something might change as Alfa Romeo had really a lot of innovations introduced lately while the rush can always alter the company’s plans. Like, for instance, it happened to the roadster which had been developed in cooperation with Mazda. As a result, the model was given away to Abarth.
