Porsche CEO Matthias Müller confirmed plans on launching an all-electric sports vehicle. The company is considering building an electric sports car able to travel at least 300 km without recharging. There is no word yet about the model which should serve as the platform for the electric Porsche.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, Matthias Müller gave the following comment: “Of course we think about building an electric car. It will be an all-electric vehicle. I cannot see any point in loading it with additional powerplants. It should be able to travel 300 km without recharging, or better 400 km”.

One should not forget that back in 2011 the company built three Boxsters fitted with electric powerplants in cooperation with Volkswagen. The combined capacity of two electric motors was around 240 hp. They were powered with the help of special energy storage batteries with a capacity of 29 kilowatt hours. 0–100km/h in 5.3 seconds (just enough to reach the power outlet). However, after the tests performed near their home city of Stuttgart, the e-Boxsters were not put in production.

According to Left Lane, the new, yet unnamed Porsche electric car will borrow its powerplant from the Auid R8 e-tron. The e-tron prototypes are equipped with two electric motors each of them delivering 190 hp and 410 Nm of torque. These engines allow the 1,780-kg car accelerating to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and reaching the top speed of 200 km/h.

While Porsche is getting ready, Tesla — the American electric car manufacturer — plans to launch more than 30 new European dealerships till the end of the year. Also there are new enthusiasts ready to customise electric cars. It’s high time for Porsche to hurry up...
