Well of course, best of the best supercars are sold as piece work. The production of super-exclusive models is limited to not more than a few hundreds of units. But exclusiveness mates with high price and can serve the car manufacturers a dirty trick. Bugatti had to face a situation when it needs to unload some $60 million of Bugatti Veyron supercars.
Bugatti Veyron coupé was revealed in 2005 and went on sale in 2006. All 300 units were sold within 5 years. Veyron Grand Sport, a roadster built on the same base, was capped at 150 units. However, at least one third of these cars have not found its owner yet. And this is when some of supercars are sold out even before the premiere of their prototypes. The total cost of the unsold cars is about €62 million.
In order to stir up some interest among the potential customers the company launched a programme on the territory of the North America which offers test-drives of the legendary Bugatti both on open roads and racing tracks. The programme is called Dynamic Drive Experience. Bugatti executives hope that after giving a try to the 1200-hp car some of the Americans, able to pay €1.43 million for a Grand Sport or €1.7 million for its modification, Grand Sport Vitesse, would not be able to resist the temptation of purchasing a car like that.
According to Bugatti, about 20 potential customers participate in this programme each week-end. However, the manufacturer assumes that the rest of the roadsters will be sold within the period of at least one year. The clients do not fall even for the official status of the world's fastest open-top car.
