Common sense tells us that year after year supercars have to become faster and more powerful... But McLaren, the British carmaker, revealed its plans to show a cheaper and less powerful supercar at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show — its name is P13.
According to the company’s chief executive Mike Flewitt, the all-new McLaren P13 is designed to pit against such supercars as, for instance, Porsche 911. The car will be one step below the 12C model and will actually become the most affordable McLaren. Autocar experts expect the pricing for the P13 to start at £120,000 (about $200,000).
McLaren P13 will use carbon-fibre chassis which has already become a tradition for all models of the brand. It will be fitted with an ultra-compact twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 producing 450–500 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. According to estimated data, it will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. The new P13 will be smaller and lighter than the 1400-kg 12C.
The youngest car in McLaren family will have a similar exterior to P1 with some traits of the 12C model. The company plans to produce around 2000–2500 vehicles per year. As the production volumes start to grow, the carmaker will extend the range of P13 by adding a spider and an extreme version of its competitor Porsche 911 GT3 to coupé body style. With that in mind, production plan comprises 4000 cars per year.
