Audi plans to start production of a 375-hp S3 Plus hatchback. In case they succeed, the engineers from Ingolstadt will take the lead in the category of the most powerful 2-litre 4-cylinder engines leaving Mercedes behind. The current Audi S3 is fitted with a 2-litre motor producing 300 hp. The “five-doorer” accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds, while the “three-doorer” is 0.1 seconds faster.
According to Motoring, the most powerful 4-cylinder Audi will evolve from the current two-litre EA888 unit. The engine will be featuring an upgraded fuel-injection arrangement, a new air intake system, a larger turbocharger and a different exhaust system. As a result, all technological manipulations should increase the engine’s efficiency up to 375 hp.
It’s likely that new innovations introduced by engineers from Audi will also influence the power specifications of the top A3 hatchback — Audi RS3. It will be equipped with a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder engine. Its power has not yet been officially announced, but if we put all we know together, we can suppose that new powerplant might be producing 400–420 hp.
