Unlim 500+ permanent participant Leonid V. continues forging ahead to his goal — cover 1 mile distance in less than 21.00 seconds. Let us remind that right now Leonid holds both Unlim 500+ records — best 1 mile time and top speed at crossing the finish line. His best result is 21.8 seconds @ 400+ km/h. Here’s the video of this record:
But after achieving this result during Unlim 500+ summer training day Leonid set another super-task — to go 1 mile is less than 21 seconds. There were 3 Unlim 500+ stages after that decision and one of them was held in Greece on Tympaki airport runway. Each time some technical issues were interfering with Leonid’s plans but he was keeping his hopes up. During the autumn stage of Unlim 500+ the engine of Leonid’s car burst into flames in one of the races. No one was hurt but the damage done to the car was tremendous and it was not possible to repair it in short time and continue record-setting attempts. Here’s the video of that race:
Best result of that day was 23.982 seconds with 402.68 km/h at crossing the finish line.
At that moment it seemed impossible for the Lamborghini to go 1 mile in less than 21 seconds before the end of the year but Leonid was not going to give up. He bought another Lamborghini which was also customised by Underground Racing. The car was upgraded by the Russian company Altechno and by the next Unlim 500+ stage held in Greece it was ready for setting the record. But another fire outbreak made adjustments to Leonid’s plans — once again the black Lamborghini burst into flames during one of the races. Fortunately, the rescue team was able to put out the fire quite fast and its consequences were not as drastic as in case with the orange Lambo. Best result of that day was 22.352 seconds with 391.73 km/h at crossing the finish line.
Leonid together with a few of his close friends including Georgiy P. — one of Unlim 500+ participants — engaged in restoring the black Lamborghini in Greece. They assembled a new engine, new SYVECS ECU, upgraded the cooling system and implemented a few other “know-how’s” in order to set the record. And finally, today, on December 21st, in Greece on Tympaki airport runway Leonid is going to try to set the new record. Dragtimes team is already there with all the measuring equipment set up and ready to be used and everyone is waiting for the results with great anticipation.
The last news from Greece: during the day the car made passes with gradually increasing boost pressure. On a medium boost pressure the best result was 21.732 seconds, with 397 km/h trap speed. 1/4 miles in this run: 9.339 seconds, with 279 km/h trap speed. This result already is an absolute record, however Leonid isn't going to stop, tomorrow there will be the second day of tests and we are waited by the most interesting — passes on a high boost level.
