Alonso was finally able to reach an agreement with his future team. Ferrari’s driver switches to McLaren.
Fernando Alonso was part of McLaren team in 2007; however, his contract was mutually terminated. Later, the driver returned to Renault and, starting from 2010, he joined Ferrari.
There were many speculations in the course of two previous Formula 1 Grand Prix about Alonso negotiating with McLaren. Here comes an official report on the arrangements reached. Fernando will get a salary of $35 million becoming the highest-paid driver in Formula 1. The name of his teammate has not been announced yet.
Alonso wants Jenson Button to remain in the team. The British driver has vast experience in working with Honda engines that will be used in McLaren race cars starting from the next season, which might come in handy. Anyway, an experienced teammate will give the team more chances to advance.
At the moment, Fernando Alonso is discussing ways to be released from his contract with Ferrari to start testing with McLaren after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As soon as they find a solution, the official announcement about the driver’s move to McLaren will be made.
