Toyota has teamed up with the TRD performance division to build the Sleeper, which hides a “heart” borrowed from the Tundra pickup under the body of a Toyota Camry. It covers the quarter mile distance in 9.8 seconds.
This fascinating sports car was revealed at the SEMA tuning show. Beneath the first “layer”, which is actually a Toyota Camry, one can find tube-frame chassis and a 5.7-litre V8. Sure enough, the engine has been upgraded, boosting its power to 850 hp.
The donor, though, shared several other units also. The Sleeper Camry inherited Tundra’s transmission, rear suspension and electronic equipment.
It is also fitted with a wet nitrous system to convince all SEMA’s visitors that it is one of the most outstanding and fastest vehicles presented at the show.
