Alfa Romeo has started testing its first crossover. First shots of a heavily camouflaged test prototype caught on cameras of spy photographers have already leaked on the Internet.

Despite a carefully disguised brand logo, Autocar claims this test mule to be the future Alfa Romeo crossover.

As a reminder, the new model is due in 2016. It is based on the Maserati Ghibli platform. But unlike its donor, the crossover will not be limited to V6 engines, it will also carry four-cylinder mills from the MultiAir family.

The company also plans to build a high-performance version that produces around 500 hp with the help provided by Ferrari engineers.
