Formula 1 officials consider removing stranded race cars from the track with the help of helicopters.
After the tragic crash involving Marussia’s driver Jules Bianchi, Formula 1 officials decided to revise the procedure of removing stranded cars from the track. If the recovery vehicle had not been present in the area, the accident with Jules Bianchi would not have occurred. It means that Formula 1 will have to avoid the presence of recovery vehicles on the circuit. The Swiss helicopter company has proposed to FIA to remove stranded cars by airlifting them away.
“This is a safe, easy and quick method. We are interested in using helicopters in Formula 1”, Air Zermatt’s chief executive Gerold Biner told Motorsport-Total.
But in this case, track marshals, who assist in car recovery, would face even more danger. It’s not the first time the Swiss company offers services to Formula 1; however, FIA would rather make the drivers slow down than send them to pits with the help of helicopters.
