Lotus with automatic gearbox for lazy drivers

Lotus decided to build the coupé and roadster versions of the Exige S model fitted with an automatic transmission.

The company officials are sure that a self-shifting version of the Exige S model in the Lotus lineup will definitely attract new buyers who are more accustomed to two pedals. At the moment, the company is completing the final tests of the new gearbox.

It’s a Toyota-sourced six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters specially recalibrated to fit the Lotus Exige S. Transmission now features two modes, Sport and Race.

No other changes have been introduced. Under the bonnet, the car still carries a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine delivering 350 hp. The Exige S fitted with an automatic gearbox will jump to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds faster than its manual counterpart.

The new model will go on sale in January. The coupé will cost £56,500 and the roadster £57,500. The customers will have to pay an extra of £2,000 for the automatic transmission.
