BMW has shared some fresh details about the new high-performance M2 coupé.
Earlier, the new model was expected to carry an engine used in the M3 and M4 models; however, Autocar recently released some interesting information. CEO of BMW M GmbH, Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, told about a 3.0-litre six-cylinder S57 petrol-powered turbocharged engine. The mill will deliver around 400 hp.
“Four hundred is the magic number. With forced induction it is no trouble to achieve this, but we have to make sure it doesn’t get too close to the power level of the new M4”, said Friedrich Nitschke.
The S57 engine will be mated to either six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission. As a reminder, at first, the BMW M2 will be offered solely in rear-wheel drive configuration, featuring an electronically controlled limited slip differential that incorporates a torque vectoring function for enhanced traction. The all-wheel drive version is scheduled to become available later on.
However, Friedrich Nitschke is unlikely to tell us about it as he is leaving BMW in the nearest future.
