The racing circuit located near Moscow has had its licence updated, meaning it can now host Formula 1 races.

Moscow Raceway in Volokolamsk has been officially granted an FIA Grade 1 licence. However, this does not mean that Formula 1 is going to come to Volokolamsk next season already.

“Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix involves signing a promotion contract and making other arrangements and, as far as I know, the circuit has no intention to fund the process of applying for the right to host a Formula 1 GP. In case there is a third party ready to invest money into this project, technically, Moscow Raceway is ready to host Formula 1 races”, Igor Ermilin, the presidential advisor of the Russian Automobile Federation, told TASS news agency.

On the other hand, Moscow Raceway has already hosted world championships like the DTM, WSR, WTCC, FIA GT. That is why it will come as no surprise if the above-mentioned third party appears on the horizon in the nearest future, making it possible for this racing track to host Formula 1 races. What is important is that the licence is ready.
