Audi considers building two new modifications based on the R8 — a plug-in hybrid and a pure electric model.
“We will see an increase in the efficiency of high-performance cars — they have to meet CO2 regulations of the future in order to survive”, said Audi board member for R&D Ulrich Hackenberg, placing an emphasis on the significance of car hybridisation. Most probably, the company will make use of the expertise gained when developing the Lamborghini Asterion, which features a four-engine powertrain.
Apart from that, the company is not going to leave electric vehicles out of account. In this case, the R8 model range is likely to feature an e-tron in the nearest future. It will share the platform with the Lamborghini Huracan. However, it remains unclear just when the new models could launch.
