Volkswagen has prepared an XLSport Concept sports hybrid with a superbike engine.
Volkswagen has prepared an almost new concept car, because it has not so much in common with a 1-litered hybrid. The appearance was totally reworked, but a unique scheme of opening doors was saved. Also, the engineers have almost kept expressive rear design of the car, leaving it without serious changes.
The concept weighs only 890 kilograms. Magnesium-reinforced plastic, carbon fiber and other ultra-light materials were used to build it.
The engine was taken from the Ducati 1199 Superleggera superbike. The most powerful 2-liter engine was chosen with 200 hp of output, which is able to work up to 11 000 rpm.
The vehicle is equipped with a 7-speed robotized gearbox. 0–100 km/h acceleration takes 5.7 seconds and a top speed is 270 km/h.
It is not announced whether this concept will be produced in series or not. In the nearest future this most probably will not happen, since VW XL hybrids were released in 250 cars with cost of 110,000 EUR for each.
