Local Motors have developed the design of the first 3D printed car, which should hit mass production.
American company Local Motors has finally come up with the design of production cars, which will be manufactured with the help of a 3D printer. It hasn't been an easy choice at all, as the design challenge had had over almost 200 entries. And the winner is the project dubbed the SF-01 Street Fighter.
As a reminder, the first 3d-printed car was revealed at Chicago’s International Manufacturing Technology Show, when the company’s representatives said they were ready for mass production. Moreover, they were talking about the end of 2014.
As for the technical characteristics, the car will be based on a tubular frame and feature a mid-engine layout able to accommodate various engines including inline 4-cylinder mills or even more powerful larger V8’s. Not all details have been revealed, there is still plenty of work ahead.
