Nissan GT-R R35. A road legal GT3

There’s no secret that tuning Nissan GT-R R35 is quite expensive. The car is quite popular, the list of available parts is quite extensive and any desired configuration can be assembled but, unfortunately, to make it very fast the owner will need a lot of money. And this happens not only in Russia, with its economic and customs regulations, but also for the rest of the world. For example in the United States, where «aliens» were not expected in the automotive market and Japanese automakers had to build local factories and even to create localized brands to gain US market. But we are going to talk, nevertheless, not about Infiniti but Nissan. GT-R.

In the sunny California you can always find something interesting. Whether the climate makes such environment or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s governorship, or all together — California is full of rarities and interesting projects.

David Uy — is a young American man who had already owned a few awesome cars, like the BMW E46 M3, Evo X or Integra Type R. Finally he purchased a Nissan GT-R R35. In general, it may seem that David is a typical golden boy, who is able to buy a toy, then bring lots of money to the tuning shop and get out of the tuning studio driving a shining car but it is actually not true. David has quite serious approach to the tuning of his car and does everything by his own hands in the garage in his free time — at night.

Everything started with a set of new RAYS Volk Racing TE37 wheels with Toyo R888 tires, JRZ adjustable suspension and carbon touches to the look of the car. David wanted to keep the character and spirit of the GT-R, without using body kits able to break original lines and occasionally, he saw a Rocket Bunny body kit, which was not only beautiful, but functional as well addition to the car, and also it reminded the external aerodynamic elements from the circuit GT-R GT3 version which David took as a source of inspiration. Fender extensions with naked screws, aggressive rear wing attached not only to the trunk lid, but also connected with long rods to the rear diffuser, carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, side skirts and aerodynamic elements, guiding the flow of the air — all this has transformed the usual GT-R into GT3-look car but road legal.

The interior has also changed — Recaro drivers bucket, reworked with softer leather steering wheel, safety cage with 4 mounting points, but otherwise everything remains almost stock, to maintain the level of comfort for everyday driving.

And the most interesting is under the hood — at first glance, it is more or less stock, VR38DETT is hidden under a Nismo cover. But the intake, exhaust and the engine were reworked: the block was prepared by FFTEC Motorsports racing team, H-shaped connecting rods and forged pistons for compression ratio 9.0: 1 were implemented instead of stock ones, the head was ported and prepared to work with 266 degrees camshafts, AMS turbochargers and intercooler were installed. Two Walbro pumps bring bioethanol E85 to the injectors capable to pour into each of the six cylinders up to 2 liters of fuel per minute.

Transmission had little smaller refinements — the usual clutch pad were substituted with carbon-Kevlar ones, lightweight flywheel and carbon fiber driveshaft.

All those improvements gave the 798 hp performance at a mild set up, to keep reliability at an acceptable level. Approximate time to pass the quarter for such car is about 9 seconds, and in Laguna Seca track, David managed to pass a lap in 1:38 seconds. But anyway this Nissan is quite comfortable to be used on public roads. But with GT3 spirit.
