Take several new ideas, add some time, and spare parts borrowed from the BMW 1-Series convertible — here’s the Bavarian recipe of creating a 2-Series convertible. A new bigger sports car will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show. One of its major advantages is a fabric soft top that needs 20 seconds to open or close.
The new convertible is bigger than its predecessor. It is 72 mm longer, 26 mm wider and has a 30-mm longer wheelbase.
A multifunction steering wheel, Cruise Control with braking function, adaptive headlights, and High Beam Assistant system all come as standard. It will be available in four variants: Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport, which should go on sale in 2015.
The 220i Convertible comes with a 2.0-litre petrol-powered engine delivering 184 hp. The 228i is fitted with a 245-hp engine. The car will also be available as a 220d model equipped with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel producing 190 hp.
The top-of-the-range M235i version will be fitted with a 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo delivering 326 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Eight-speed automatic transmission comes as an option. 0–100 km/h takes 5 seconds with the automatic, or 5.2 seconds with the manual transmission.
