Mazda has finally revealed the new-generation MX-5 compact roadster that will go on sale next year.
The new Mazda MX-5 is 100 mm shorter than its predecessor. Its wheelbase has been shortened by 15 mm. The roadster is based on a new platform with a lower centre of gravity. The weight of the new car has been reduced by 100 kg, bringing it to a figure of just a little over a tonne. A hardtop modification is coming soon.
The company’s representatives say they are going to use the Jinba ittai design credo, which can be translated as “rider and horse in one body”.
While nothing is official, the sports car will likely be powered by either of the two petrol SkyActiv engines. Most probably, it refers to a 1.5-litre engine delivering 140–150 hp and a 2.0-litre engine that produces 180–200 hp. Both of them can be mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
